Our Founder's Background, Training,
Mission and Body of Work
Rooted in the Most Ancient Traditions
of Hawaii
Kumu Rick Pono’uhane Ho’okuakua Vrenios was born near Chicago, Illinois. He is a former resident of Kona in Hawaii, and he is now living on the mainland near Raleigh, North Carolina. As someone born not with Hawaiian blood, he was fortunate to be accepted and entrusted with the knowledge and wisdom of this family lineage of Hawaiian cultural practitioners.
Under Kahu Kaleolani Spencer, Pono has been a student, practitioner, and teacher in the healing and sacred arts as part of a long, direct lineage of Medical Kahuna tracing back thousands of years.
In 2004, Pono was given the recognition and blessings as a Kahu O Mana, as well as receiving the blessings as a practitioner and teacher of the tradition.
Pono was later trained on the Island of Molokai in the traditional practice of Ho'oponopono as it has been practiced in Halawa Valley for 51 generations of practitioners that is traceable back more than 2,000 years. He was one of the first, and one of only a handful of non-Hawaiians accepted to be trained in this way.
Pono continues to practice the spiritual and hands-on healing arts through his private practice at the Wellness Center at Ke Ala Kahiko. He is a licensed massage therapist in both North Carolina and in Hawaii. He is a licensed Marriage Performer in the State of Hawaii. He practices Hawaiian Elemental Healing, therapeutic massage including his Signature Elemental Lomi Lomi Massage, Craniosacral Therapy, and more.
He founded Ke Ala Kahiko, a center for preserving and continuing the education, healing, and spirituality of Hawaii based on the teachings entrusted to him.
